Saltwater vs. Traditional Chlorine Pools: Which Is Better?

pool-salt

When it comes to keeping your pool clean and safe, should you go with a traditional chlorine system or upgrade to a saltwater system? Based on our experience, saltwater pools are the clear winner—but why?

In our service area, the summer heat takes a serious toll on pool chemistry. A typical pool can lose 1.5 to 3 ppm of chlorine per day, even if no one swims in it! Since we only service pools once a week, that means we'd need to add 10.5 to 21 ppm of chlorine in one visit—which would be unsafe. For pools without a salt system, we work around this by leaving a jug of liquid chlorine for homeowners to add midweek. However, many clients have busy schedules and forget to add it. To compensate in these cases, we rely on slow-release chlorine tablets as the primary sanitizer. While effective, these tablets come with a major downside: they rapidly increase the stabilizer (CYA) levels, which forces the pool to be drained and refilled much sooner than otherwise necessary.

A saltwater system not only eliminates these headaches. But also lowers long-term chemical costs for the homeowner, making it a smart investment for pool owners.

So if you're considering an upgrade, a salt system isn't just a luxury—it’s a game changer for water quality, convenience, and cost savings! Click below and we can schedule your pool to get this amazing upgrade.
